Warming Up

Unfortunately winter is right around the corner.
In searching for coats to warm me up in the cold Canadian winter I have found some treasures. Check it out…

Soia & Kyo:
is an amazing high quality collection. In the Winter 08 assortment you can find from cropped jackets to trench coats available in a variety of colours and patterns.
My favorite styles are the double-breasted cropped gray jacket Giselle, and the double-breasted black and white patterned jacket Gemma.
The Soia & Kyo collection can be found in stores such as Over the Rainbow (101 Yorkville Av.), Girl Friday (740 Queen St. W.) and Mendocino. Starting October 1st you can also buy online http://www.soiakyo.com/ and the prices at the stores vary from $300 to $400.

Mackage: is also a high quality line but the difference is in the leather details and higher price points. My favorite styles are the black double-breasted coat Alison, the white and black jacket Sidonie and the checked brown coat Olia. The Mackage collection can also be found in stores such as Mendocino and Holt Henfrew.

Full Circle: a less detailed yet great style coat brand to be found in stores such as Mendocino and Urban Outfitters. The prices are a bit more accessible than Soia & Kyo and Mackage. I do not have any pictures but you can check it out in stores near you.

Trendsearch going Fashion

I love this shot I've found on Flickr.com because it could easily represent the Trendsearch blog going fashion. The picture captured a gathering of hangers (the symbol I use for my blog) in bright colours and dramatic lighting.
The shot is available for your review at http://www.flickr.com/photos/naveenjamal/116429165/

Leopard print is still on

Believe it or not, leopard print is still a must have for this winter.
I understand that leopard print is a trend evolving from the '60s, '80s and '90s influences, but the constant interpretation of the animal prints over the past seasons made me a little hesitant about this evolving trend.

Holt’s window shows a range of leopard print bags in an amazing red background, from Louboutin, to Valentino, Prada and Dolce & Gabbana, all are showing leopard prints on their fall/winter collections. My favorite one is the Valentino tote with a bow on the side.
Even though I was a bit hesitant with the trend I must confess that I would love to own one myself…

Objects of Desire

Isabella Blow, the eccentric British aristocrat, became a fashion icon after her suicide in May 2007. Blow was known by her unusual hats and quirk sense of style and left her contribution to the fashion world by discovering talents such as Alexander McQueen. She also launched numerous new looks and turned hats into objects of desire.
Blow’s eccentric accessories style influenced the Fall 07 collections and this influence will be also carried through to the next SP 08 season. We will find Blow’s influence in the plumes, feathers, quill hair decoration and numerous hats shown this season.

By acknowledging Isabella’s trend approach, the fashion world is paying a tribute to a fashion lover that dedicated her life to style and eccentricity. I believe she became a fashion icon and her style might inspire designers in the next seasons. I personally would not wear any kind of plumes or feathered hair decorations, I would stick with the amazing hat styles for the season.

Bumping into celebrities

I hate people that run around celebrities to catch their best shot a la “paparazzi” but I could not help myself. I was walking along Bloor Street this afternoon when I’ve noticed a buzz around Roots so I got my camera and took these shots of Catherina Zeta Jones and Michael Douglas. I could not miss the opportunity to show you guys that Catherina is not only stunning but much skinnier than I thought.
I know Toronto is not Hollywood but it can be pretty busy during the film festival. You should check it out because you never know when you will run into Brad Pitt turning a corner.

Perception

Perception rules the world.
Perception of beauty, career and social status are the main players in today’s society.
I had never really thought about perception until I realized that if you do not have a formal, 9am to 5pm type of job that gives some kind of status you become nobody. It is quite impressive the change in values and moral behavior of today’s society. People will ask what you do first to then ask you who you are.

I quit my high status “retail buyer” job a couple of months ago and since then I started to write my own blog. It is amazing the wrong perception people have about blogs. In order to write a current and interesting content an extensive research, a lot of time and passion are required. Combining trend, fashion research and décor in my own personal way is something that inspires me everyday.

Despite ruling the world, perception should not rule your life.
Trust me. People do not know your aspirations, where you want to go, what you want to achieve. You are the result of your own choices, so choose whatever you want to be and follow your dreams. The success and recognition will come if you put your heart and soul into the life and project you choose to live.

A touch of colour transforming a boring suit into a stylish outfit

A touch of colour can transform a classic suit into a trendy outfit. I love this composition seen in the Sep Vogue where the touch of colour was given by a LaCrasia ruby glove, the two-toned Louis Vuitton patent pumps and the three toned Marc Jacob knit brimmed hat.

Brights combined with neutrals

I love this Harper’s Bazaar shot placed in the September issue.
The bright colours paired up with a neutral beige set the tone for one of my favorite trends of the FW08. The mixture of colours of the accessories brings a fresh look to the composition. I also love the purple nail polish. For the ones uncertain of this new trend, purple nail polish is a hit....wait and see...

The artsy Playa del Carmen

The perfect vacation can be encompassed by a white sand beach, lots of sun, a few margaritas and an exquisite location. If you combine all of that with a hint of the Mexican flavor and two limes, you will get Playa del Carmen in the Mayan Riviera.

In this trip I got a chance to experience not only a sunny escape but also to understand how the Mexican culture is translated into fashion and art.

It is quite impressive how the Mayan descendants blend different colours, materials and textures to create a unique look. The richness of the details are everywhere, from bags to mirrors, ceramics to tunics, space decor to tiles, all these elements combined reflect the Mexican character.
Look at the amazing tiles I got to use as coasters and the exclusive ceramic pieces.

It is also amazing how the Christian religion influences their culture. I found a super cool store called “Milagros” - miracles, where you can find frames, statues, crucifixes, rosaries and bags. A setting full of Christian related pieces. Tacky yet amazing.

In my opinion, what creates the Mexican flavor translated everywhere in the Mayan Riviera is the Spanish essence combined with religious belief, Mayan history, a splash of colour and tons of creativity. This combination creates a beautiful and joyful culture that is worth to visit.
