If you are looking for something nice to do in the weekend and happen to be in Brazil, you should go to the street market at Benedito Calixto park in Sao Paulo. The market is one of my favourite spots in the city, with more than 320 exhibitors showcasing antiques, furniture, chandeliers, handbags, silverware, prints, knick knack, etc.
And if you are looking for unique clothing and accessories done by local designers, just cross the street and you will find a market with small treasures at great prices. I found some treasures myself that I would like to share with you:
-Vila Honorata bags. I like the multi-coloured straw clutch that can be used in many ways.

-Absolutely LOVE the sequin owl cute little bag-My fave leather bracelet. I bought a blue snake and a purple snake wrist piece. Love it!
-Last but not least is the silk hand painted small pouches by Marlene Wolfensberger with Brazilian motifs such as Ipanema beach's sidewalk, Brazilian lyrics, etc....www.flickr.com/photos/mwolfensberger

Trends from "Midnight in Paris" Allen's movie
I was so inspired by the best Woody Allen movie written in decades, “Midnight in Paris” that I decided to post a series of drawings by Vahram Muratyan. VM uses graphic art to compare Paris to NY - Godard vs Woody, tabac vs nails, expresso vs americano, Amelie vs Carrie. Check his work at parisvsnyc.blogspot.com.
The well-written Allen movie brings to the audience the relationship of a writer and a selfish rich girl. The movie makes you travel on time with Owen Wilson and you will meet funny historic characters such as Hemmingway, Dali and the Fitzgerald’s. Images from:thefashionwire.com. Trendsetters already showed the 20’s trend in Cannes. BEAUTIFUL head pieces and glamorous dresses!!!!

Christian Louboutin by Peter Lippmann
The of Fall Winter 2011 ad campaign & lookbook of Louboutin shot by Peter Lippmann looks INCREDIBLE. Lippmann got inspiration on the paintings of Elizabeth of Austria – Francois Clouet, Marquise D’Antin – Jean-Marc Nattier and Penitent Magdalen - Gerges de la Tour to style the shot and the result is simply stunning.
The contrast of the contemporary shoe with the styling of old painting looks new and fresh

Handbags inspired by Pirates of the Caribbean
Panamericana's school of art latest assignment. Teacher: talented Jo Souza. The task was to translate the Pirates of Caribbean latest movie into a commercial product. Guess what was my choice of product??? No it wasn't shoes!!!! It was handbags, another passion of mine. I am sorry I've got too lazy to translate it all, however you might understand the whole concept as the images speak for themselves. Please check the course at www.escola-panamericana.com.br

Ronaldo Fraga Summer 2012 at SPFW
Ronaldo Fraga is one of my favorite Brazilian designers. He was the last designer to showcase his collection at Sao Paulo Fashion Week yesterday and the whole show was a gift to the audience. His collection was inspired on Noel Rosa, a famous Brazilian ‘samba’ singer and also he based his outfits on the columbines, pierrots and marines costumes of the carnival balls of the 1935. The old glamour of that era was brought back by the choice of colour Fraga showed in the runway with outfits only in black and white. The ambience of the carnival balls was recreated by Noel Rosa’s cover singer and by the confetti on the floor of the runway.
The prints and patterns displayed columbines & pierrots drawings and they were inspired by art deco designs. The Polish prostitutes fashion outfits inspired the sheer pieces. What I like about his work is the depth of his research. I am sorry but I posted a little Portuguese summary of Fraga's collection....

Plastic accessories
In one of my scavenge hunts around Sao Paulo, I've discovered the work of Marzio Fiorini an accessory designer that works with plastic. I absolutely LOVE the flat effect of the plastic in the body. Check it out and let me know what you think. Isn't his work great? www.marziofiorini.com.br

What is inspiring me now....
Josephine Baker, the beautiful African American dancer & singer was the first African American to start in a major motion picture. In the 1920’s she shocked audiences with her minimal, close-to-nothing dresses and her new and sensual dance moves.
In late 20's early 30's she was influent in many intellectual circles, her work was seen by artists as Mondrian and she was Christian Dior’s muse. With more than 1500 marriages proposal and an affair with Frida Kahlo I surely can assume she was a popular gal.
I absolutely LOVE her audacity in this movie. Look the way she ripped her beautiful dress to be able to dance more comfortably

Lenny Brazilian Swimwear 2012 Collection at RFW
Lenny, the Brazilian Swimwear brand celebrated 20 years of career of its designer Lenny Niemeyer with a FANTASTIC 2012 summer collection at the Rio Fashion Week last week. The fashion show was hold at a beautiful natural spot, a lake called Lagoa Rodrigo de Freitas in Rio. Lenny presented an ensemble of 20 years of her work, and as always, the collection was impeccable. The luxury swimwear brand excels by its perfect cut, the attention to detail, the design, the prints and patterns. Lenny was really inspired and so was I as I might get myself into a “tiny little weeny” bikini ;) Lenny was definitely one of my favorite shows at the Rio Fashion Week.

Ronaldo Fraga translate Sao Francisco River in a great exhibition
The Ronaldo Fraga exhibition based on the Sao Francisco River is nearly genius. Fraga is a well-known Brazilian designer that traveled the Sao Francisco River to get inspiration for his summer 09 collection. The culture of the people that live by the river is so diverse that he was able to put together not only an imaginative collection but also a great exhibition.
The collection was based on the colours of the river and its surroundings, by the local hand-crafted embroideries, by the texture of the coffee sacs, by the wood of modest boats, by the net of the fisherman and so on.
The exhibition shows the way the community lives within the river margins, their faith, and their costumes. You must check it out. It can be seen until June 26th 2011 at Pavilhão das Culturas Brasileiras, Ibirapuera’s park. http://saofranciscoronaldofraga.com.br
