What’s hot now and can be bought on promotion this year that can still be worn next year? The ankle sandal/boot. I absolutely love the styles above and please notice the gladiator styling influence, peep-toe details, flat outsoles, and multi-strap buckles.

What is inspiring me...
The 50's are being the inspiration for many designers this winter 08 season with sophisticathed below-the-knee sheath dresses and sleek outfits.
However, my inspiration is coming from the 50's muses such as Grace Kelly and their jewelry collection. The luxury of the chandeliers earrings and diamond necklaces are really inspiring me...

Milano Fashion Global Summit
Milano Fashion Global Summit 2007
Font WGSN
In the annual luxury conference in Milan last year, the importance of the retail luxury was discussed and there are some important points that are current today and I would like to discuss as they apply to the fashion industry:
-The luxury brands are embracing the idea of global concept stores. There is a shift in the way the stores put the product in a context. The new centers of luxury are multi-floor complexes selling not only apparel but moving into accessories, interiors, etc. As an example is the Armani Tokyo’s 6,000sqm store that will open with a club, florist, homeware section and more.
-Diego Della Valle, CEO of Tod’s explained: “The message that you convey is the idea of a dream. You build a temple. A store today in not just a way to sell a brand, these are now places people can go to, hang out and then buy into a dream”.
-E-commerce is also an area relatively new to the luxury brands in process of expansion. The Halston brand, for example, launched their new collection with e-commerce being the only point-of-sale. The items showcase in the runway could be shipped 24 hours after the runway show. This is a never-before seen event that could create big changes in the fashion industry. Designs from the runway shows are going to be accessible to the public must faster than has traditionally been the case at a lower cost to the retailer.
-New centres of luxury could emerge such as Japan (Tokyo), China and India. According to Paola Durante, director of Merrill Lynch, “In China there are 66 billionaires and this number is growing fast. In a short term, the Chinese will be the largest group of luxury consumers worldwide.”

- Forum by Tufi Duek: the Spring 09 collection was inspired by the Brazilian "lençois Maranhenses" rivers. The combination of sand, dunes, sky and water served as background to this light weighted, light colored collection where the women's body curves are the main focus.

SP 09 Gaultier asian-inspired printed dress
I love this Spring 09 Jean Paul Gaultier printed dress. I love the Asian-inspired print, the color and pattern combination creates a feminine yet fresh look. It is a great tip for next summer buys.
p.s. since it is hot outside, I've decided to skip the winter 08 trends for now, and and talk first about the Spring/Summer 09 pieces I like, this way you can have a better idea of what to buy on the current season that can be worn next season.:)

Tom Ford
Tom Ford was awarded with the menswear designer of the year prize of the Council of Fashion Designers of America’s (CFDA). Tom Ford’s label, launched last year, is recently new to the market place. The designer’s brand focuses on an extreme luxurious, head-to-toe men’s wardrobing and the strategy is to place the deluxe brand collection in stores that offered not just world-class tailoring, but an experience where the service, packaging and sales environment are as exceptional as the product.
For the ad campaign, the designer hired the controversial photographer Terry Richardson, know for his erotic imagery, to create a sensual/erotic campaign targeting its male audience. I think the ads are extremely controversial but genious, to say the least, it created a big buzz for the new collection. Although Europe is considered more "liberal"than America, the ads were banned by the Italian Advertising Institute for being too "vulgar" and for having scenes of "explicit sex"...GO FIGURE....

Fall Winter 2008 Accessories Report
I have selected 3 main fashion trends seen in the runway for Fall Winter 2008.
1.Futuristic style with a sporty hint. This trend was shown by the architectural and sculpted heels, structured wedges with cut out details, high platforms and minimalist forms. The futuristic look was reinforced by the choice of materials such as mirror and patent leathers. The sport style was perceived by the usage of material such as PVC and moiré. My favorite style is the Allessandro d’Aqua green Mary Jane stiletto that used a combination of materials and colours creating an ultramodern sporty chic look.

2.Artsy Hippie-Chic
We could call this new trend as artsy hippie-chic look, multicultural mix style or even global fusion. The trend was seen in the floral appliqués, in the patchwork details used in handbags, clutches and sandals, in the embroidered peep toes, in the mix of material - such as leather with suede and velvet with silk. My favorite style is the Marc Jacobs’ yellow leather bootie.

3.Sparkling SeasonRhinestone details and Swarovski crystal was seen in many accessories this season. I can bet that the Fall Winter 08 will be a sparkling and expensive season.

Hugocreate.com
Quite impressive the online campaign created by Hugo Boss to promote their Hugo perfume. The company used as a marketing tool an online graphic design contest at www.hugocreate.com that gave the well known Hugo bottle a whole new meaning. The contest gives an opportunity to new talented designers around the world to showcase their work and creativity. Hugo Boss marketers should be praise due to the great rate of public interaction and word-of-mouth generated by the contest. As a graphic designer myself, I already picked my favorite winner design from the Brazilian Carla Garofalo Tavares. Please check it out by clicking on the link below http://www.hugocreate.com/en/winners.php

Mimo new label
Antique Chinese graphics were the inspiration for my new label. I wanted to mix handcrafted details in a graphic that would also bring a feminine appeal to the brand. The handcrafted characteristic was given by the rough recyclable paper and the feminine appeal was shown by the Art Noveau influences. Let me know your thoughts..

SP 08:: Mimo
I love the dramatic appeal of this floral piece. It would look great if paired up with white blouse/top and a black bottom, or simply a black dress.

Where life will take you?
Louis Vuitton is about to launch its first ever TV commercial. The amazing spot shot in France, Spain, India and Japan focuses on luxury travel rather than fashion. I also loved the main concept “life as a journey” created by Ogilvy & Mather. (To see video click on link below).

What's inspiring me these days.....
I am absolutely inspired by Andy Warhol’s '60s pop muse girl Edie Sedgwick.
Edie’s hip chic look, free-spirited attitude and authenticity created the effortless yet edgy style she was known for. Her short platinum hair and dark-lined eyes matched up with the ballet-inspired look that had an influence on the style of that era. Edie paired-up tights and leotards with everything - from shirts to dresses - to create her own look. I also love her animal-printed fur coats choices and the big sized earrings and accessories.
According to Siena Miller (who played Sedgwick in the movie Factory Girl), "Edie used to do this jazz ballet. Every day she'd put on her tights and her leotard and she'd dance around her apartment. She was too lazy to change so she'd put a big coat on over that and go out, so everybody started to copy this look."

What's on the Streets: Miami
Fashion trends seen in Miami: denim short jumpers, high-waisted white denim capri, cotton checkered shorts, floral-inspired printed dresses, tulip shaped chiffon dresses, floral cotton tunics, gladiator sandals and bright coloured flats.
The decoration trend seen in Miami that inspired me the most was the Edie Sedgewick, Lisa Minelli-inspired pillows seen at Nathan's stores in Miami Beach.

'70s inspired-looks were presented on the runway bringing the hippie-chic style back to life.-Jumpers
I abolutely loved the denim jumper presented by Raia de Goeye. It is feminine with a '70s hint.
