In order to summarize a brief overview of the FW08 collection, I have highlighted the most relevant themes, key items and details of the season.
I hope you like and feel inspired to go shopping.
Themes are “stories” that trend directors put together to illustrate a trend. The “stories” are created by gathering a group of clothes from different designers that will build a cohesive look to tell the story.
FW08 Themes:
1. Sensual Minimalism – a new clean fashion aesthetics with a refined and sensual touch. The details are in the tactile fabrics and in the fur trims.
2. Bright Hues – those who did not believe the '80s bright colours could come back so strong were wrong. The bright hues came back with different designers interpretations from tops to bottom. The main colours are jade, fuchsia, yellow, amethyst, Klein’s blue.
3. Uniformly chic – a trend that will dress the working girl. We will find menswear suiting, tweeds, plaids, schoolgirl uniforms influencing jumpers and dresses, the secretary blouse, and the '60s shifts in structure of silhouette or in the tent shapes.
4. Multicultural World – a mix of styles and patterns to create a unique and eclectic look. Usage of embellished and oversized scarves to balance out the season streamlined silhouette.
5. Hard Core lux – this trend was influenced by the '80s Blade Runner and by the power of the prior silhouettes. Structured corsets, biker leather jackets, leather dresses, studded leather boots, tons of zips, black and high shine in combination with forceful shapes create a more sophisticated yet fierce look for this season.
6. 1920s/1940s – '20s appeared in the cocoon dresses, art deco prints, flapper frocks, jet beading, feminine blouse sweaters, cloche hat, furs, tulles and bead embroideries gowns.
